DNipCare observed World Hospice & Palliative Care Day online in association with RITEE College of Nursing, Raipur, Chattisgarh and Echo India on 08th October 2022.
Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psycho-social and spiritual.
World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is as such an annual unified day of action to celebrate and support Hospice and Palliative care around the World.
The Theme of this year’s World Hospice & Palliative Care Day was “Healing Hearts & Communities”.
Mr. Cyriac Antony, Treasurer welcomed all the participants including the Nursing students of RITEE College of Nursing, Raipur, Chattisgarh. Padmashree Dr. Rajagopal, Chairman, Pallium India inaugurated te Programme. Unfolding of the theme of the World Day has been done by Prof. (Dr.) AT Kora, Principal, NIINS, Purnea, Bihar. Dr. CN Bhargavi, Academic Coordinator briefed the audience on the Academic Programmes of DNipCare. Special Guest of the occasion was Prof. (Dr.) Julia Downing, Executive Director, International Children’s Palliative Care Network. Dr. Rakesh Garg, Additional Professor, IRCH, AIIMS, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour and spoke at length on the issues especially those like Financial Toxicity, Timely intervention/treatment to reduce the further burden both of the Patients and the Palliative Care Units, need of comfort care etc.
Mr. Subu Rahman, Principal Director, Railway Board(Audit), O/o C&AG emphasized the requirement of everybody to carry out the passion for Palliative Care and practice it to ensure that the entire population is sensitized on the subject and the plights of the suffering patients.
Prof. Balakrishnan, Principal, RITEE CoN, Mr. Narayanan Puthukudy, President, IAPC, Kerala, Dr. Rathi Balachandran, Sr. Faculty, CoN, Dr. RML Hospital have felicitated the programme and the organizations involved.
A Bird’s eye view on Palliative Care was provided by both Mrs. Alice Stella Verginia, National Faculty, IAPC and ELNEC Master Trainer and Mrs. Nileema Shingade, Sr. Nursing Officer, IRCH, AIIMS, New Delhi.
The musical programme was also presented by both the students of RITEE CoN and Mr. Sarthak, a Palliative family Member of DNipCare.
KV Hamza, Gen. Secretary, DNipCare presided over and moderated the function. He has highlighted the need of connecting the chain by sensitizing the MSSOs of premier Medical Institutes and large Medical Colleges on the subject of Palliative Care since these MSSOs play a vital role of connectivity between the Patient and treating Doctor/Nurse in the hospitals. He has also stressed the need of announcing a declared Palliative Care Policy by the Government of NCT of Delhi so as to ensure the smooth delivery of Palliative Care to the suffering patients in and around Delhi by the Organizations/Institutes with the Governmental support. The requirement of a quick decision on the reduction of marginal cost of the curative medicines especially for the life limiting illnesses has also been flagged before the participants of the meeting for pondering over and taking up with the appropriate authorities accordingly.
Mr. Suresh Thaliyaril, Secretary, DNipCare coordinated the programme jointly with Mr. Albin Mathew of Echo India. Mr. Abdul Kareem PK while saying the vote of thanks pointed out the necessity of re-evaluating the services and improving quality and competence in the service delivery of Palliative Care to the suffering patients.
