Health & Family Welfare Department decided to collaborate with AIIMS for training of doctors in palliative care and pain management
A Workshop on Cancer Pain Management and Palliative Care was held at Delhi Secretariat jointly by Department of Health & Family Welfare and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The workshop had around 100 doctors as participants from Government hospitals. The speakers were from both reputed Government teaching institutions and corporate hospitals. The workshop deliberated on the pain issues related to seriously and terminally ill patients suffering from such disease as Cancer when the patients are subjected to excruciating pain and how to make their life manageable and comfortable while the treatment is going on.
Secretary Health S. B Shashank informed that the need for palliative care was emphasized wherein role of the medical practitioner and family members are equally important. The doctors were sensitized about the new practices in the palliative care and pain management and were asked to adopt them while treating the patients. Participants got immensely benefitted from this workshop which gave them complete perspective about the pain management.
The Department of Health & Family Welfare, Delhi Government further decided to collaborate with AIIMS for training of doctors in palliative care and pain management. Such activities in this matter will bring academic and clinical benefits in the patient care.
