World Hospice & Palliative Care Day 2011 celebrated











DNipCare celebrated World Hospice & Palliative Care Day 2011 on 8th October 2011 in M.P's Club, South Avenue, New Delhi. The Chief Guest for the program was Shri T.K.A.Nair, Adviser to Prime Minister. Other distinguished guests were: Shri Wajahat Habibullah, Chairman, National Commission for Minorities, Prof. Omcherry NN Pillai, Director, Bal Bhawan, Mrs. Elizabeth Antony, President Navoothan Charitable Trust, Shri Madhavan Nair, Trustee, SriKrishna Medical Trust, Dr. R.K. Grover, Director, Delhi State Cancer Institute, Dr. Abdul Mannan, Joint Director, Delhi State Cancer Institute. Prof. Omcherry NN Pillai presided over the function. Ms. Shalini Narayanan and Ms. Neerja Bakshi anchored and coordinated the celebration.

The program started at 5.30 PM with the remembrance for the departed souls from the Palliative family of DNipCare after the World Day 2010. Candles were lighted in the memory of all these Palliative family members by the volunteers who cared them most when they were alive and ailing. While inaugurating the program Shri TKA Nair stressed the necessity of developing community volunteers to render Palliative Care to the ailing patients. Public donation boxes for private enterprises and public institutions have also been inaugurated by Shri T K A Nair by handing over the first donation box to Mr. Rafi, representative of M/s EMK Group. Prof. Omcherry NN Pillai handed over a donation box to Shri Jamaludin KM for placing strategically in his Hiba Exports for the public to donate. Shri Madhavan Nair received a donation box from Shri TK A Nair for placing it in the Kartiayani Auditorium in Mayur Vihar Phase 1. Inaugurating the donation cans for homes, Shri Wajahat Habeebullah handed over a can to Shri Balachandra Menon. Shri Ashok Mehra received a can from Shri Madhavan Nair.
The second session of Open forum for doctors, nurses, volunteers, patients and their families was started by Dr. Suresh K Mohammed and speech on cancer, its prevention and curative methods were explained in detail by Dr. R.K. Grover, Director, Delhi State Cancer Institute. Volunteers shared their experiences of rendering palliation to the patients in their area. Some of the patients present have also participated in the discussion to know more about the care and shared their experiences with the palliative volunteers of DNipCare.
The session was followed by showcasing of in-house art and cultural talents of the volunteers and well wishers of DNipCare. The spectators enjoyed the atmosphere of songs, music and different ethnic dance forms presented by members of this Palliative family under DNipCare. The program ended at 8.30 PM with light refreshments.
