Our heartfelt Condolence.......

Plase read the Press Report in The Hindu by Ms. Sarita Brara http://dnipcare.org/images/TheHindu07102012.jpg

God took our Deepak Behera, one among our palliative family members, to his heavenly abode at 8.20 PM today in this Easter eve. His association with us started from 21st September 2011 when on receiving information about his pathetic situation from Meenaxi Banja of Times Now channel, we (Madhu, Suresh, Unnikrishnan and me) located him in Delhi University Metro Station area suffering from Oral Cancer and went on through the ups and downs of his disease.

Hailing from Baramati District of Maharashtra, Deepak (37) was in Delhi for more than 1 ½ decades or so riding his tricycle and reaching the passengers to their destinations, though his own destiny was in oblivion due to severity of the disease. Our efforts to trace his family in the Baramati District or adjacent areas did not find any success.

However, the care and support from the core of hearts of DNipCare volunteers, the Samaritans of Shanti Avedna Sadan and the Delhi State Cancer Institute authorities could, as we feel, provide some quality in the otherwise neglected life of a poor destitute rikshaw puller.

We are thankful to all like Ajith Kumar, Cyriac Antony, Abdul Kareem, Shilpa Babu, Seema Prasad, Smita Kumar, Lakshmi Radhika Pittala, Priyanka Devarakonda,Revant Soni, Kumar Subham, Manish Taneja, Chanchal Vats, Deepa Vats, Naresh Wadhwani, Nidhi Shukla, Babu Gurucharan, Shaikh Moideen, Baby CA, Elizabeth Antony, Raghavan, Somnathan, Ancil, Habeebul Rahman, Neerja Bakshi, Mansha Bagai, Kasturi, Caroline Arthur etc., to name a few, who devoted their time and energy to supported us in providing care to Deepak when he required it the most.

Let us all pray for the departed soul.

'Beyond Hospital' - A Palliative Care sensitization to the Nursing Community of Safdarjung Hospital on 13th March 2013

It was an informal occasion/gathering where DNipCare could convey the message of Palliative Home Care to a group of about 100 very much learned and experienced Nurses of Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi on 13th March 2013.

Though it was like an attempt to teach fishes to swim, the response from the great Nursing community was overwhelming and enthusiastic.  In addition to Mr. Suresh Thaliyaril of Safdarjung Hospital, many of the Nurses like Mrs. Serene Wilsnet, Mrs. Gayatri, Mrs. Shashi Bala, Mrs. A Joseph, Mrs. Padma Prakash etc are already associated with DNipCare and providing voluntary services to the long term, bedridden, terminally ill patients in different parts of Delhi.

So once again the Palliative family under DNipCare is grateful to the commitment and sincerity of the Nursing Community as a whole.

Meena's Thoughts.....

Here I am restarting my life, the one which came to a complete stand still on 27th February 2011 when my beloved mother bid farewell to this world after going through the severity of blood cancer.  Life once again came to a complete naught on 26 January 2013 when my dad all of a sudden decided  to join his better half in her heavenly abode after a brain hemorrhage when the entire Nation was celebrating its 66th Republic Day with all the high and might of military power of our great India.

The drum beats were echoed on Rajpath while the pulse beats of my mentor, my protector, my dad were on high pitch reaching a blood pressure level of 280 degree.  His desperation, feeling of meaninglessness in life and the withdrawal symptoms were never understood by any of us, the four children he brought up through the thick and thin of life.  The occasional angriness came out from him due to frustration and helplessness has also been passed off by us as the routine upheavals only.    Finally now he is no more.  The hustle and bustle of mourners and relatives have ceased now.  The stoic silence creeping on the tree on shedding its leaves engulfs me, the forsaken bird.

Where shall I offload the heaviness of my heart? With whom I shall be able to share my sorrows?  Questions and questions without any definite answers swirling in my head.

At the end of a long battle of pros and cons in mind, I am at a logical point now, ready to try sharing my mind, my thoughts, imaginations and vent out my feelings through this DNipCare Blog.

I would also like to contribute through my pen and thoughts for the ailing patients for whom the volunteers of DNipCare provide palliative home care.  I know my disadvantage in reaching to those suffering patients along with our volunteers, but let me understand their perils, their issues and be with them mentally, if not physically.

Hope some of you, if not all, who read these scribbling, will comment and encourage me because at this juncture I require your wishes and inspiration to get rid of my grief, engage in the world of alphabets, words and sentences; get back to life with full of bright colours and joy sans the thoughts about my two polio ridden legs.

With a lot of love,

Meena K Paswan
