Finally we bid farewell to Mr. Raghavendra Gautam, 33 years Cancer Patient and one among our DNipCare Palliative family members since May 2021 and was admitted in Shanti Avedna Sadan on 28th August 2021. He died at 11.45 AM today, 09th September 2021.  He used to tell that he does not have anybody to call a family and came out of his Village Maihar Distt. Satna Madhya Pradesh at the age of 10 or 12 and worked on odd jobs including as a Head Cook with a Catering Agency of Indian Railways, but lost that job also on setting in the Covid pandemic period and his disease of Oral Cancer.  Seeing the plight of the patient, Mr. Ravi, of Dharmashala of Delhi State Cancer Institute and DNipCare Volunteer started supporting Raghavendra physically, mentally, socially and financially with the backup support through Seema Prasad, Syeda Anam, Somasekharan, etc., from DNipCare.

When the treatment options were over and health of Raghavendra started deteriorating drastically, the Shanti Avedna Sadan provided him the best possible care.

Incidentally on 4th September 2021, after failing in all my attempts to find his whereabouts from his former employer Indian Railways, Madhya Pradesh Government etc, tried my last chance with Raghuraj Rajendran Sir, one of DNipCare’s well-wishers while I was near Udyog Bhawan, and to my astonishment, within 20 minutes or by the time I reached INA the SDM of his village Maihar called me up and on reaching Shanti Avedna Sadan the call was from Raghavendra’s own cousin Mr.Shubham who had the faint memory of meeting Raghavendra over 20 years back as an elder cousin only.  One video call with Shubham and coming to know about Mr. Pushparaj Gautam, father of Raghavendra, his brother, mother and all, it was like a dream come true for him, to see their faces and hear their voices after more than two decades.

Though they planned to come from Madhya Pradesh and meet Raghavendra in Shanti Avedna Sadan in Delhi, it seems he was in a little hurry to reach all of them even if not alive and the ambulance carrying his mortal remains left for Maihar District at 6.15 PM today. Mr. Subin Salam, Mr. Shivanand Mishra and KV Hamza were there along with the good Samaritan Sisters of Shanti Avedna Sadan to witness final journey of Raghavendra to his homeland.  Dignity and care in terminal stage, even if not in life time, were the only things we could and prayers for his departed soul.
