Life is not like that always. Mission DNipCare for rescuing cancer patient from street on 09th November 2022.

Life is not like that always.  While lying on the corner of a muddy footpath of congested Khalilullah Road in Batla House of Jamia Nagar, Delhi, amidst the noisy traffic, heightened air pollution and the nip in the air, life never felt to be coming back to normal and so he thought of even ending it once for all, but there was no means in front of him.  This was clearly reflected in his requesting for a few sleeping pills from the young girl occasionally visiting him to provide food and cleaner clothes.   Aman Ali, (name changed), 40, Male, belonging to the Purnea Village of Bihar reached Delhi six months ago for availing treatment for his cancerous wound developed in his mouth, obviously due to overuse of tobacco in gutka form, but could not get the treatment as he had no relatives or bystander to sign the consent for tests and treatment procedures to be done from LNJP Hospital.   Left with no money or means, Ali got stranded in the unfriendly Delhi streets and ended up at Okhla about a month ago.

It was for the whatsaap post made by Kirti of Smilefirstcare foundation, the information about him reached Suresh sir and eventually to DNipCare.  Without knowing his clear whereabouts and the status of the disease he is suffering from, it was difficult to plan the strategy of rescuing him from the filthy road side.   Luckily he read upto 4th standard in school and with the bit of information he could scribble on the paper, his mouth can be opened partially only and difficult for others to decipher what he says, it is understood that he does not have living parents.  Neither siblings, nor he is married also, as conveyed.

The team DNipCare led by Suresh ji and comprising Seema Prasad and I along with Kirti reached out to him yesterday, 09th November 2022 and to our expectation, the wound exposed, on removing the headscarf he wound over his face, was a large one and in really bad shape.  His polio ridden right foot was also an added worry for his free movements.  However, the nearby metal shop owner was kind enough to allow us make him sit on the edge of his shop doorstep and we could managed to get his wound dressed and make him feel slightly comfortable.  By that time, Abdul Nazer Sahib of Al-Shifa Hospital has also joined the team and he spared his vehicle for shifting Ali to Shanti Avedna Sadan for further immediate and regular wound management and care.

After having a hotwater bath, change of clothes and another round of fresh dressing of the wound at Shanti Avedna Sadan by the affectionate Sisters, the tears were flowing from the eyes of Ali, not with desperation this time, but of relief and happiness of having somebody to take care of him now.
