We, the volunteers of
DNipCare celebrated the Wor World Hospice & Palliative Care Day 2013 in
MP's Club, South Avenue, New Delhi on 12th October 2013.
A large gathering of
volunteers, patients and people from different walks of life attended the
program. The program started with two sessions, 1) Class on the efficacy of
Palliative Care for volunteers and 2) prevention and tackling medical issues
during palliation for patients, which were done Dr. Rajni Mutneja, Sr.
Oncologist and Dr. Deepak Srivastava, Sr. Neurosurgeon.
The public function
started at 6 PM with a candle light memorial for the departed souls. The
31 patients who departed from the Palliative family and this world during the
last one year were remembered with silent prayers.
The program was
inaugurated by Mr. TKA Nair, Adviser to Prime Minister. The volunteers
who excelled in providing palliation to the debilitating patients and also could
bring a positive change for patients were honoured for their commitment and
devotion.
In addition to the
individual volunteers Ms. Nidhi Shukla, Ms. Seema Prasad, Mr. Arun
Unnikrishnan, Mr. Bhaskar, the volunteers who render Palliative Home Care and
introduced into this mission through the institutional approach of NSS Wing of
IIT, Delhi have also been honoured during the occasion.
The vehicle, (Maruti
EECO ) donated by the State Bank of India, KG Marg Branch, New Delhi
under the Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Banking of the
institution to DNipCare for use as a Palliative Home Care Unit was jointly
inaugurated by Mr. TKA Nair, Adviser to Prime Minister, Mr. Wajahat
Habeebullah, Chairperson Minority Commision, Mrs. Vandana Sharma, Jt. Secretary
Department of Pension and Mr.KK Basheer, President KMWA.
In addition to them,
the program was attended by eminent people like Dr. MK Sharma, Additional
Secretary Ministry of Law & Justice (Retd) & Registrar, CIC, Mr. Abdul
Kareem, Additional Economic Adviser, Economic Advisory Council to PMO, Dr.
Abdul Mannan, Joint Director, Delhi State Cancer Institute, Dr.Rajni Mutneja,
Sr. Oncologist, Dr.Deepak Srivastava, Sr. Neuro Surgeon etc.
The cultural evening
showcased the in-house artistic talents of both volunteers and the patients and
the program enthralled the audience especially in the context that it was a
display of sheer talent and killing spirit to live despite the odds of severity
of diseases of the patients.
