Observance of World Hospice & Palliative Care Day on 10th October 2020 on Zoom Platform

 

 


 
































































DNipCare observed World Hospice & Palliative Care on 10th October 2020 virtually on Zoom Platform followed with DNipCare ECHO Program on Excellence in Palliative Care Nursing.  

KV Hamza, General Secretary, DNipCare welcomed the participants including the dignitaries to the program.

Dr. V.P. Joy, Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat inaugurated the Program.  Dr. Joy emphasized the necessity of Palliative Care for the patients in their most needed period of disease and suffering.  He has lauded the active interventions of DNipCare Volunteers under the Palliative Care mission for the last 12 years. 

Shri A.T. Sainudin, President, DNipCare delivered the Presidential address highlighting the efficacy of Palliative Care for the chronic patients.

Dr. Dileep Kumar, President, Indian Nursing Council launched the Academic Session DNipCare ECHO Program on Excellence in Palliative Care Nursing.  While speaking on the occasion Dr. Dileep Kumar conveyed about the proven success created by the Nurses led Palliative Care Programs in the State of Kerala.  He has also agreed to consider Credit Hours to the Academic Sessions being imparted by DNipCare to the Nursing fraternity for propagation and implementation of Palliative Care in the best interest of ailing patients. 

Dr. Bhargavi CN, Academic Coordinator presented the overview of the academic session and also coordinated the first session taken by Sister Hanife Gamwell.  

Dr. Suresh K. Mohammed, IPS(Retd.) & Senior Health Specialist, World Bank spoke on the occasion reiterating the care and concern for the debilitating patients through DNipCare.  He has also recollected the working pace of Home Care as well as Palliative Clinical Services rendered by DNipCare efficiently.

Dr. Atreyi Ganguly, National Professional Officer, WHO India presented the WHO perspective and possibilities in Palliative Care.  

Shri Surojit Chattoraji, Chief Operating Officer, ECHO India, the Technical and Academic partner for the sessions of DNipCare expressed his satisfaction on the combined efforts of both these organizations in capacity building to the Nursing fraternity to cater to the ailing patients.  

Dr. Rathi Balachandran, ADG(Nursing), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India fondly remembered her association with DNipCare since its inception in the public health arena of this NCT of Delhi.  Dr. Rathi has also highlighted the necessity of empowering the human resources including Nursing fraternity.  

The following issues were raised for the attention of the dignitaries and participants to ponder over so as to evolve a resolution accordingly:

a) Providing dignity in death by ensuring timely last rites of the destitute patients who are otherwise devoid of dignity in life, but the medico-legal protocols of ascertaining their whereabouts after death delays the last rites by weeks or even months.  Protocol to be put in place for beginning the ascertaining process of their whereabouts immediately on registration of medico-legal case on picking the destitutes and to be  be finished well on time while they are alive.  

b) Need for Parent Care Leave to be introduced for employees beginning with Central Government to protect the interest and well being of the age old parents of the employees.   Appeal is for allowing the one year Parent Care Leave in the entire service of the employees, which can be availed in spells of minimum 7 days and not more than two months at a stretch to cater to the age old parents suffering from chronic diseases so that the employees shall not be in a state of distressed mind for their be able to concentrate on their duties comfortably.

Dr. Joy informed to take up the issue of Destitute patients so as to find out some possible resolve.  Regarding the Parent Care Leave, he has informed that the issue having wider ramifications, needs to be discussed in details.

On conclusion of the public program, Shri Cyriac Antony, Treasurer, DNipCare said vote of thanks to the dignitaries and participants of the program.

Shri Suresh Thaliyaril, Secretary, DNipCare coordinated the overall program of the day.

The first academic session on Overview of Palliative Care was introduced by Dr. Rakesh Garg, Additional Professor, Critical Care, Pain & Palliative Medicine, Department of Onco-Anaesthesiology & Palliative Medicine, AIIMS.  

Ms. Neelima Shingade, Sr. Nursing Officer, IRCH, AIIMS did the Case Presentation during the session and the case was discussed and inputs provided by Dr. Rakesh Garg in the Palliative perspectives.  

Ms. Usha Augustine, Clinical Nurse Specialist, King's  College Hospital, London shared her Palliative Care experience while working both in India and abroad. 

 The participants of the Academic Session expressed their enthusiasm and worthiness of the session through their feedbacks provided at the end of the session.
