The Online Academic Session of DGHS -DNipCare – ECHO India program on “Promoting Excellence in Palliative Care Nursing – Batch-2” has been inaugurated by Dr. T. Dileep Kumar, President, Indian Nursing Council on 23rd October 2021. During the inaugural speech, Dr. Dileep Kumar stressed upon the need of upgradation of nursing skills from General Nursing to Specialized Nursing. He has also talked about the initiatives of Government of India for Palliative Care and ensuring availability of pain medications for the suffering patients, especially the end stage cancer patients. Dr. Dileep Kumar has also informed that the Credit Hours already sanctioned by INC for the first batch will hold good for the second batch and further batches with the same course content and framework.
Dr. Bhargavi. C.N, Academic Coordinator DNipCare welcomed the participants. Dr.Rathi Balachandran, ADG(Nursing), DGHS made the key note address and also conveyed the proposal of DGHS of converting major Hospitals of Delhi into Pain Free Hospitals by integrating Palliative Care discipline.
Dr. Priya John, General Secretary, Christian Medical Association of India during her address informed about the Palliative fellowship and diploma courses being offered by CMAI for Doctors and Nurses respectively. The requirement of status elevation of Nurses along with alleviation of pain and sufferings of patients has also been highlighted.
Dr. Roy K George, National President, Trained Nurses Association of India conveyed the essential requirement of Palliative Care Teams to look beyond the Cancer thereby taking care of patients suffering from disease like Dementia also where the carer needs more training and focus.
Shri KV Hamza moderated the inaugural session and said vote of thanks to the participants and dignitaries.
The Academic Session began with Introduction of Topic by Dr. Rakesh Garg, Additional Professor
IRCH AIIMS New Delhi and moderated by Dr. C.N Bhargavi, Academic Coordinator DNipCare. An Overview of Palliative Care was given by Prof. (Dr.) AT Kora, Nursing Superintendent (Rtd), St. Stephens Hospital followed with Case Presentation by Ms. Shakeela Murali, Course participant from CMC Vellore and Question Answer and Discussion handled by Dr. Rakesh Garg.
The closing remarks were made by Shri KV Hamza and the Programme was coordinated by Shri Suresh Thaliyaril, Secretary, DNipCare.
